What Pouch is Best for One Sticking
As we go through this brief article, we will discuss the importance of a good piece of gear everyone should own even when one stick climbing. Building a solid foundation with solid gear can make your hunting more efficient and fun.
One of our hottest products has many different uses, I personally use it to hold my rope and belay device while one sticking. The coolest thing is that it was not specifically built for that purpose, but in my opinion, it is better than any other pouch on the market for one sticking. Let's introduce the BullPak.
How did the BullPak come to be? As I was sitting down last year, I wanted a solid pouch that can accommodate a few different uses. Firstly, it needed to hold enough small gear I use for critical items such as a rangefinder and a bow release. Secondly, it needed to be able to be attached to a pack or a saddle. Thats where the first version of the BullPak came about.
You can find many pictures of the first version of the BullPak. After several months, I wasn't quite happy with the pouch and realized not many people were buying it. I also was still a novice in my sewing abilities. The following year I decided to revamp the original version into something greater, that's where we get this version.
Unbeknownst to me, I also started to one stick at the time. After I completely the 13th prototype of the BullPak, I started to use it as a one sticking pouch. I knew it was a game changer and the rest is history. Let's go down below and break down the details of the best one sticking pouch.
American Ruggedness and Efficiency
The BullPak is built to efficiently store any important gear right at your fingertips. With our U.H.C system, it is meant to be attached outside of a hunting pack, a tree saddle, or beneath a tree stand seat.
- Universal Hybrid Connection System
- 4-way stretch front pocket
- 100% American Sourced Material
However, a lot of individuals including myself, use it on our saddles, as it has amazing structural integrity and a ton of ample storage.
What is the BullPak?
The BullPak was produced to bridge the gap between not having enough storage space and having too much while being capable of attaching it to whatever you want. Down below list the capabilities of the Bullpak.
- U.H.C system allows the pouch to be attached underneath a tree stand, a tree saddle, or a hunting pack.
- Enough storage to hold 40 feet of rope and a belay device.
- Expanding front pocket to stuff other essentials into without a fight.
With these attributes, it's an overall well-rounded pouch that can be used for virtually anything including a one sticking pouch.
With the front pouch being a 4 way stretch material; you can stuff a lot of gear without the resistance of a normal Cordura front pocket. This is what ultimately makes this a great one sticking pouch. How I run this zip pouch for one sticking is simple. But before we get into how I utilize this pouch, let me give you some context of what I run so you can compare your setup to mine.
I currently run:
- 40 feet of 9mm sterling rope
- Petzl Gri Gri for the Belay Device
- Petzl Quick Link
- Black Diamond Carabiner
- Also Carry an Opinel Number 18 Foldable Saw
Now let's get into how I setup the pouch. I take 35 feet of my 9mm rope and coil it up into the main compartment of the Bullpak. On top of the coil, I have my belay device connected to the mainline with my carabiner attached. Thats everything I keep in the main compartment. I zip the pouch up with the remaining 5 feet hanging out with the quick link.
Now for the front pocket, I take my foldable saw and stuff it at the very bottom of the front pocket. Now remember, the front pocket is stretchy, so it is capable of holding a lot more than what I'm about to tell you. I take the remaining 5 feet of my rope with the quick link and coil it on top of the saw. Once the tag end of the rope is in the front pocket, I zip the front pocket up.
What this does is separates the rope into two sections. If you one stick, you know you want to make sure you are able to grab the tag end of your rappel rope with the quick link to quickly attach it to the tree. Then when it's attached to the tree, you then need to be able to attach yourself to your belay device. This is why I firmly believe this is the best one sticking pouch out there. This pouch keeps your entire setup separated with ease, has multiple attachment points in the back of the pouch, and keeps your gear out of the elements.
What is the U.H.C System?
The U.H.C System stands for " Universal Hybrid Connection " . We have incoprated 4 webbing attachment points to each corner on the back to be securely attached to whatever it needs to be attached too. Also it has 2 snap back fastener straps for the main attachment point in the back.
This allows you to virtually attach this pouch onto anything. It also gives you the option to DIY this pouch the way you want and make it your own unique setup.
Down below perfectly illustrates that. Mojack Outdoors is shown below using it as his own chest harness. It has enough storage space to fit binoculars and other accessories with ease.
The BullPak for a One Sticking Pouch
Here are some key features that make this pouch great for one sticking.
- Enough storage space for 40 feet or 9mm rope, quick link, and a belay device.
- Integrated loop holders to hold carabiners or prusik tenders
- Dedicated front pocket to separate your main line with belay device and the quick link.
For the entire 2024 hunting season, I personally have put in over 30+ hunts. Over 150+ hours of running and gunning with this pouch. I can say without a doubt this is the best pouch to one stick with. It accomadates everything youll need and more.
Will this work for Tree Stands?
Yes, 100% it will. With the U.H.C System, you can DIY this sucker underneath your seat, and it will not budge.
P.S.- Use zip ties or Nite Ize Gear Ties to really cinch this sucker down.
How much does it hold?
It can fit 40 feet of rope, a belay device, and a quick link. Or a pair of binoculars and a few other accessories.
Why are the fasteners hard to pull apart?
We use Pull The Dot fasteners that are a tri-lock system. That means it cannot pull apart in 3 directions and only be released in 1 direction. These are military grade fasteners that are extremely tight to pull off.
